Help Us Grow Body Happy School Libraries

We’re inviting our community to help us build something simple but powerful — school and community book collections that support children to develop kinder, more confident relationships with their bodies and each other.

We’ve launched the Body Happy School Library Appeal, and we’d love you to be part of it.

Why we’re doing this

Books are one of the most practical tools we use in our work. They spark conversation, support reflection, and give children language for experiences they might not yet know how to name.

Across our programmes we see first-hand how important it is that young people encounter stories that:

  • reflect different bodies and identities

  • challenge narrow cultural messages

  • build empathy and respect

  • support belonging and confidence

Not every school has access to these kinds of resources. This appeal helps us change that.

Where the books go

Donated books are used in two ways:

1 - Mobile programme libraries

They travel with us into schools and community settings, supporting workshops, assemblies and youth-led activity.

2 - School legacy collections

Where possible, we gift books to participating schools at the end of delivery so the impact continues long after sessions finish. They end up in classrooms, libraries and wellbeing spaces where they can keep being used alongside our other physical and digital resources.

This isn’t about building a collection for us - it’s about getting the right books into the right places.

How you can take part

You can donate a book in whichever way suits you:

  • Purchase from our curated Bookshop.org wishlist

  • Buy directly through the Body Happy bookshop (for titles we stock)

You simply choose a title and send it to the appeal address — full details are here:

Every book makes a difference.

Together we keep building cultures where children and young people can celebrate, respect and accept ALL bodies — especially their own.

Thank you
